In these uncertain times when our community is dealing with the COVID situation many of you are working from home, homeschooling and taking care of the normal house duties.  This is one situation where taking care of yourself is very important. For me that has been continuing my daily runs.  These runs are mostly easy miles with two days of slightly higher intensity. This really helps the our minds to heal and body unwind after being indoors for some hours.

Here are some tips to keep in mind:

See you out there. =)

  • Maintain social distancing.  It is a good idea to run at least 2 arm lengths away from other folks.  Be mindful of the individuals you may encounter along your run.  Stepping off to the side or making a wider path around them will allow a safe distance and security to those individuals.  Just be careful not to veer into the road or another unsafe situation.
  • Be seen. With the stay at home/work from home orders it has been nice to have less cars on the road, however you should still be aware of your surroundings. Continue to practice safety by watching for cars and paying attention best you can.  Using reflective clothing or flashing lights (in front or back) so drivers can easily see you is also a good practice. It is not just the behaviors of other cars, but of yourselves, too.
  • Air High-Fives. That is right no more high fives or fist bumps at the end of a run or when you see someone on your route. Just give an encouraging air high five, thumbs up or Shaka to let them know “Great Job!”
  • Cleanliness– One thing to try to remember is to wash your hands after you workout. You may have used the cross-walk button. These areas can harbor germs and may not be cleaned as often as we wish. You can also carry hand sanitizer or wipes to clean your hands, keys or phone of any germs after your run.  Being mindful to wash our hands is one step in protecting yourself and loved ones.
